One of Pilgrim Lodge’s core values is: “Love of Creation – PL demonstrates the importance of environmental stewardship in our programming and use of resources.” We are so excited that we have the opportunity to embrace this value by transitioning to sustainable energy through a large-scale solar installation!
During Jump Start Workdays, April 25-27, 2025, a team of people will work to mount the panels on the roof of our dining hall, Quitobaquito. Rocky Ackroyd of Green Sun, LLC will lead this initiative at Pilgrim Lodge.
Rocky has made a commitment to support Pilgrim Lodge with this installation as an opportunity to bring sustainable energy to our camp, with which he has a long, personal history. Rocky starting coming to Pilgrim Lodge when he was 12 years old. He served on the summer staff for for 5 years, describing it as one of the best jobs he’s ever had. Over the years, Rocky has volunteered as a counselor and Dean. His favorite camp experiences have been Island Camp as he treasures the magical elements of a small group sharing time around a campfire together.
Rocky has been a champion of sustainability initiatives at Pilgrim Lodge for decades! Rocky donated the solar panels on Cabin 5. When he installed those panels, roughly 20 years ago, it was both his first solar installation and the first step for Pilgrim Lodge to utilize sustainable energy. At that time, the solar panels on Cabin 5 provided an opportunity for discussions with campers about the value of renewable energy sources and environmental stewardship. With this large-scale installation, Rocky is helping Pilgrim Lodge to make a deeper commitment to the use of sustainable energy while supporting it’s own sustainability as a camp program. This summer, we will share our excitement with our campers as we discuss the importance of responsible use of resources and our kinship with the natural world.
The solar installation is made possible through the remaining funds raised through the Capital Campaign. Donors who contributed to that campaign continue to shine a bright light at Pilgrim Lodge!
