Pilgrim Lodge - Summer Mission Project 2008

PL Mission Project 2008

The Pilgrim Lodge Mission program for 2008 focused on Camp To Belong.  Campers, counselors and deans learned about foster children in Maine.  The program brings siblings being raised in separate households together.  We made cards, sent birthday gifts, prayed and raised:

$9,948!

to help with this program.  Thanks everyone who gave and to the volunteers at Camp To Belong who came to PL all summer to present.

Article from the Sun Journal, August 21, 2008 about Camp To Belong

  Camp To Belong, National

Imagine yourself as a child, being taken away from your parents and separated from your siblings while placed in a foster care home. Imagine yourself as a parent, having your children taken away from you and separated from each other while they are placed in foster care. Hard to imagine!

Siblings. They can be the first one to put the blame on each other for minor incidents. Yet, they are the first ones to come to each other's side when they're in trouble. They look up to each other ... they look out for each other. They are mentors to each other and best friends.

Camp To Belong is a national non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization dedicated to reuniting siblings placed in separate foster homes and other out of home care for events of fun, emotional empowerment and sibling connection.

Founded in Las Vegas in the summer of 1995 by Lynn Price, Camp To Belong Summer Camp was created to offer siblings in foster care and other out of home care the opportunity to create lifetime memories.

The flagship events are week long summer camps. The Camp To Belong Summer Camp Program is approaching it's 11th camp season and has reunited over 2,000 siblings at camps and reuninions since 1995.

The Camp To Belong Summer Camp is the only program of this type in the country and continues to expand from Colorado to other states, Canada and London.

CTB is headquartered in Colorado and we accept applicants for campers and volunteer counselors from all over the country.

Thanks to donations from individuals and the support of corporations, service organizations, foundations, and grants, Camp To Belong's outreach is growing. (source: Camptobelong.org)

Camp To Belong, Maine

Camp To Belong Maine is an offspring of a national organization, Camp To Belong (CTB) that has been actively reuniting brothers and sisters through camp programs and reunions since 1995. In 2007, Camp To Belong’s Summer Camp Program completed its 14th camp season. It has reunited approximately 1,000 separated siblings at camps and reunions to date.

In 2001, Lynn Price, Camp To Belong’s founder, was the keynote speaker at a Maine conference for teens in foster care. CTB has received national and international recognition thanks to Lynn Price, whose childhood experience in foster care inspired her as an adult to found the organization. Her personal story, passion and commitment to reuniting siblings separated by foster care moved every member of the audience that day. It was that day that the idea of a Camp To Belong in Maine was born.

Since that day, a committed group of volunteers has worked in collaboration with Lynn to create a plan for Maine to host Camp To Belong for Maine youth in care. Everyday, we are closer to realizing this goal. (source www.camptobelongmaine)

Camp To Belong Maine meets at Camp Wigwam in Waterford Maine in the month of August.

During the summer campers will learn about CTB, pray for the campers and have an opportunity to make an offering to help send Maine kids to camp to spend a week with their siblings.
